IT was a good Saturday – almost a perfect day – but defeats for Peterhead and Chelsea took a bit of the shine off.
My early Super Single advised on Thursday came in with 6pts on Aberdeen at 5-6 but I lost four thanks to Peterhead’s shock defeat at Airdrie. Then it was a story of terrific trebles.
The Top Treble won at 3-1 thanks to Man City -1, Aberdeen and Dunfermline, the both to score treble came in at 9-2 with games at Bournemouth, St Mirren and Annan and I even landed a treble on the both to score and match result long shot. That won at 45-1 after 3-1 wins for Celtic, Dunfermline and Albion Rovers.
There was a profit on my first scorers Yankee due to Leigh Griffiths and Faissal El Bakhtoaui and the only losers were five homes (beaten only by Chelsea so many would have had their stake returned) and the long-shot aways and draws bets.
With two days left in August the Super Single is 5pts in profit while the advised accas are now 25pts up which is pleasing – and that figure doesn’t include the long shots or it would be even better.
Well done to everyone who posted winners today, including Greg whose nap won again. He really is a tremendous asset to the site and his contributions are appreciated.
There’s a busy Sunday card and I’ll be taking a good look tonight before putting up more tips later and hopefully a Super Single in the morning.
There are two games in the Premier League with Norwich at off-form Southampton and Swansea at home to a Man United side who will have been lifted by last week’s Champions League route of Bruges.
Southampton have started the season terribly and in midweek crashed out of the Europa League to Midyjtlland. Norwich have been exciting and decent and I can see them at least avoiding defeat at St Mary’s. The Canaries look big at 16-5 with BetVictor and it might be worth a risk although I’m more tempted by Norwich draw no bet at 7-4 with Ladbrokes.
Swansea have started the season well and should give Man Utd a tough test. Again the Swans look big at 13-5 with Coral but again draw no bet at 11-8 with Betfred could be the call. A double on Swansea and Norwich to score pays 4-5 at Skybet.
In Scotland Rangers are aiming to make it eight wins out of eight and I’ll post a separate preview on the game.
For the Top Treble I’m taking Gers at around 1-2 and adding Ajax to beat Den Haag and Valencia at home to Deportivo.
Ajax have made a decent start to the season and are unbeaten in eight against their opponents who won once away from home last season.
Valencia will be in good spirits after qualifying for the Champion League after two tough ties against Monaco and Paco Alcacer and Alvaro Negredo are in good scoring form. Deportivo have lost three of their last four at the Mestalla and will do well to get a point.
I’m trying to repeat Saturday’s btts win and start with PSV v Feyenoord. It was 4-3 last season and five of the last six have gone over 2.5 goals. Add Stabaek v Odd – second v fifth in Norway. This will be tough for Odd after their 7-2 defeat at Dortmund in the Europa League on Thursday.
I tipped them to score that night at 6-4 and having hit five over two legs against the German giants they can net here. Four of the last five meetings have gone over 2.5 goals and there have been 11 strikes in Stabaek’s last two outings.
Complete the treble with Sturm Graz v Red Bull Salzburg. Last season you could have backed over 2.5 goals or even over 3.5 in every Red Bull game. It’s the same this season although Red Bull are conceding as many as they’re scoring after losing several star men.
There have been 21 goals in their six league matches and six of the last seven meetings have gone over 2.5 goals.
I’ve spent hours today looking for Super Single and possibilities included PSG at Monaco, Athletic Bilbao and Eibar and Norwich or Norwich draw no bet at Southampton. If Zlatan Ibrahimovic was playing I’d take PSG but while they can edge it I’d rather keep draw on side and same goes for match at Eibar who topped the table after week one.
There are differences of opinion about Norwich. Pre-season you wouldn’t have backed them at St Mary’s but my gut feeling is they’ll get something.
However, for a Super Single I’ve turned to an old favourite and that’s Bodo Glimt at home to Sarpsborg. I tipped them many times in the summer but haven’t focused on the Scandinavian leagues much since the big countries resumed – it’s difficult to look at everything properly.
Bodo Glimt are steadily climbing the Norwegian league after six wins in seven and today the face Sarpsborg at home. A best price of 11-10 at Bet365 and BetVictor is tempting for a team is such good form.
Sarpsborg sit third bottom but are unbeaten in three and won on their last two visits to Bodo and that’s the only negative for me.
I’m also putting up a Super Single for Monday having noticed Coventry at 13-10 with BetVictor at home to a Southend side in the drop zone without a win. Coventry have started well with three wins in four and Tony Mowbray’s men should notch another. They are big at 13-10 but a Sky Blues fan has pointed out they’ll miss midfielder James Maddison who was injured last week and will be out unitl the new year. He says top scorer Adam Armstrong will also miss out.
If that’s the case I’d be less confident about Coventry but U haven’t read that anywhere. I’ll expand on this game a bit more in tomorrow’s thread.
If Bodo-Glimt and Coventry both lose I’ll finish the month exactly level on the Super Singles but with a decent profit on the accumulators. Hopefully one or both will win.
